Luis Diaz Hat-Trick: Colombian Winger Ends Bundesliga Goal Drought And Lifts Bayern Munich Back To The Top
October 17, 2026, 2026–2027 Bundesliga, Matchday 6, FC Bayern Munich vs. RB Leipzig, at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Luis Diaz of FC Bayern Munich celebrates a goal in the 4–0 win

Following a stuttering start to their league season, a Luis Diaz hat-trick saw Bayern Munich thump RB Leipzig 6-1 and climb back to the top of the Bundesliga table, level on points with Borussia Dortmund. After featuring in over 50 games for the Bavarians over the course of the 2025/26 season, Luis Diaz looked a long way off his best at the start of the new campaign.

With only one goal from eight matches, the Colombian winger enjoyed nearly a month’s rest with no involvement for his national team during the latest international break. After a goal in Bayern Munich’s shock 3-3 UEFA Champions League draw against Viking FK, Luis Diaz looked to help the Bavarians back to winning ways after two consecutive draws.

With a tight battle for top spot in the Bundesliga, the Luis Diaz hat-trick certainly put his Bundesliga goal drought behind him and returned him to his goalscoring and attacking best. This was the Colombian’s first hat-trick since February 8, when the winger scored three against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

After a tremendous debut campaign in Munich, where he scored 26 goals and assisted 19 times, will the Luis Diaz hat-trick get the Colombian back on form and will it create the impetus that the Bayern front three need to get the club challenging for the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League title?

Luis Diaz Hat-Trick: A Month’s Rest And Back Into The Goals

After a goalless and sub-par September, Luis Diaz went into the September/October international break with only one league goal to his name. With the Colombian off song, Harry Kane and Michael Olise had to do the heavy lifting, with the duo netting five goals between them in Bayern Munich’s 7-0 thrashing of Union Berlin on September 18.

However, after the international break, something lacked for the Bavarians, and a fresh Luis Diaz looked to take the mantle, with Olise and Kane in action for France and England in the UEFA Nations League. The Colombian was poor against Augsburg in the first game back after the international break, and Kane managed two assists as Bayern stuttered to a 2-2 draw.

Then, in the game against Viking FK, the Bavarians had to do a rescue mission as they were 2-0 down to the Norwegian side. However, a brace from Kane and a goal from Diaz flipped the game on its head as Bayern looked to have rescued all three points, until Viking scored in the 90th minute to rescue a point at the death, after the Bavarians went down to 10 men following Olise’s red card.

Ahead of Bayern’s league return, all eyes were on Luis Diaz to see if he could turn his UEFA Champions League goal into a goal-scoring return in the Bundesliga. The Colombian not only returned to the goals in the German top flight, but a Luis Diaz hat-trick plus an assist saw him crowned as the Man of the Match for the 6-1 win over RB Leipzig.

The 29-year-old winger had the most touches in the opposition box, had the most shots and created three chances, one of which was a big chance. After average performances in his most recent Bayern matches, the Luis Diaz hat-trick most certainly has helped the Colombian’s confidence and has seen him chip in with key goal contributions alongside Olise and Kane.

Diaz’s dazzling pace and skill have seen so many Bayern fans fall in love with him after his move from Liverpool to Munich in the summer of 2025. The Luis Diaz hat-trick lays down a marker for the Colombian, and Bayern fans will hope that it will kick-start his season after a poor start.

Extra Time Notes

The Luis Diaz hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s most recent Bundesliga win has lifted the German giants back to the top of the league. With the German top flight so tightly contested, each point will count, as the top four are separated by only a single point. The Luis Diaz hat-trick has put the Colombian back to contributing key goals and assists alongside his other forwards.

Bayern Munich’s next test will be against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League before a top-of-the-table clash against the high-flying Freiburg. Bayern Munich fans will hope that the Luis Diaz hat-trick will get the Colombian back on form and replicate his goal-scoring and assisting feats from last season.
