Manchester City vs Bournemouth Match Raised Familiar Concerns

The Manchester City win in the Manchester City vs Bournemouth match came in their first Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, August 23. The Cityzens won the match 2-1 after conceding a goal in the first half itself.

The Manchester City win in the Manchester City vs Bournemouth match came through two goals scored by central defenders, Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol. While it is not bad for the team, the lack of goal-scorers upfront could prove to be a problem for them this season.

Manchester City vs Bournemouth Exposed Familiar Problems Upfront

Man City were trailing in the match until the 85th minute, when Guehi equalised. Gvardiol then gave them the lead during injury time to ensure the Manchester City win. However, what stood out was the inability of the Manchester City forwards to score a goal.

Erling Haaland, who scored 38 goals last season and has 162 goals in 200 matches so far for Man City, failed to score in the Manchester City vs Bournemouth match.

However, he is bound to have a barren match once in a while. On one of those days, the other attacking players should be able to step up for Manchester City.

Phil Foden has scored only 23 goals in his last 100 matches for the Cityzens, which is not a good scoring frequency for a player of his calibre. Omar Marmoush, who has scored 16 goals in 62 matches for Man City so far, might not actually remain in the squad amid interest shown in him by Tottenham Hotspur.

Jeremy Doku, who is an explosive winger with great dribbling skills, has scored only 22 goals in only 132 matches for the Sky Blues so far. Rayan Cherki, the playmaker for the Cityzens, is an exceptional ball-player, but has scored only 11 goals in 58 matches for the Manchester-based club. Antoine Semenyo, the other winger, has scored 11 goals in 28 matches and has a healthy goal-scoring record.

That probably means that the Cityzens will have to depend upon Semenyo to score on the days Haaland draws a blank. The likes of Cherki and Doku will score goals here and there, but their numbers might not be enough to drive the Cityzens towards a title triumph.

To make matters worse for them, neither new signing Elliot Anderson nor Mateo Kovacic are great goal-scorers either. Hence, the problems remain for the Sky Blues as far as scoring goals is concerned.

The Cityzens Will Rely on Defenders to Score From Crosses Into the Box

The Manchester City vs Bournemouth match showcased their defenders’ ability to score goals. Gvardiol has a good aerial presence, as does Ruben Dias.

The Cityzens will have to rely on their defenders scoring from set-pieces a lot this season, as was evident from the Manchester City vs Bournemouth match.

However, the good thing about the Manchester City win on Sunday in the Manchester City vs Bournemouth match is that the team already has three points in their kitty despite trailing in the match for the majority of it.

Enzo Maresca will not mind his defenders scoring as long as the goals and points keep coming. However, the Manchester City win still left a few questions unanswered for the team that has won six Premier League titles in the last nine seasons.
