The transfer carousel was in full rotation on deadline day, as Chelsea, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund were at the centre of the action. Arsenal signed star Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after agreeing to purchase him for a club record fee. They followed this up by selling Olivier Giroud to Chelsea. Chelsea then loaned their back-up striker Michy Batshuayi to Dortmund.

Olivier Giroud Sale
Arsenal has sold striker Olivier Giroud to their Premier League rivals, Chelsea. According to reports the deal is worth £18 million. Giroud has mainly been used in the super sub rule for the Gunners this year. The 31-year-old leaves Arsenal having after having scored 105 goals in 253 games for the club. He signed for Arsenal from Montpellier for a reported £12 million fee back in June 2012.
Batshuayi signs for Dortmund
Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has completed a loan move to Borussia Dortmund. After selling star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Bundesliga club bring in the 23-year-old to replace the Gabonese striker.
Batshuayi has struggled to be a first-team starter for Chelsea, making only 32 appearances. The Belgium international joined former Premier League champions from Marseille in 2017, and scored just seven goals for The Blues.
Transfer Merry-Go-Round
The Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sale to Arsenal rested on Dortmund finding a replacement for their star striker. French striker Oliver Giroud was also on the shortlist for Bundesliga club. However, Giroud preferred to stay in London and was sold to Chelsea. With Giroud joining the Blues, it made Michy Batshuayi available for Dortmund.
It was also reported that the 23-year-old was approached by Tottenham Hotspur over a possible loan move. The proposed deal would have also involved Spanish forward Fernando Llorente moving to Stamford Bridge. However, Batshuayi rejected this possible approach for Spurs, fearing that he would not get enough playing time behind star striker Harry Kane.
