Al Hilal and Al Jazira clashed in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World. Abdoulay Diaby opened scoring for Al Jazira in the 14th minute. In the 36th minute, Odion Ighalo grabbed the equalizer for Al Hilal. The game ended 6-1 in favour of Al Hilal. The other goals were scored by Matheus Pereira, Mohamed Kanno, Salem Al-Dawsari, Moussa Marega and Andre Carillo. Ighalo and his teammates will face Chelsea in the next round of the competition.

Ighalo only joined Al Hilal from Al-Shabab in January 2022. The 32-year old scored 12 league goals in 18 appearances for Al-Shabab in the 2021/22 season. He continued his impressive goal scoring form at his new club, scoring on his debut. Also, he made history as the first Nigerian to score at the FIFA Club World Cup. Not many Nigerians have managed to participate in the competition.
Al Hilal will hope to cause an upset when they face the UEFA Champions League holders Chelsea. The competition has always been won by European or South American teams. Ighalo will be ready for battle against Thomas Tuchel’s men, hoping to make a difference. The Nigerian striker could know one or two things about the opponents, having previously played in the Premier League. He signed for Watford from Udinese in 2014 and spent three seasons there. Then in 2020, he signed for Manchester United on loan from Shanghai Shenhua.
Ighalo has scored over 180 goals in all competitions and has played across Africa, Europe and Asia. He was recalled to the Nigerian national team in 2021, having previously retired from international football. He emerged top scorer at the AFCON 2019 tournament. However, he could not participate in AFCON 2021 as a result of issues with his Saudi Arabian club.
