The Premier League title race is reaching its peak as the 2025/26 season nears its end. As of now, Arsenal’s narrow 1-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday, May 10, has put them five points ahead of Manchester City, who have a match in hand.

The Premier League title race has Arsenal in a favourable position at the moment, as a huge VAR controversy helped the Gunners in the dying minutes of the match, as a West Ham equaliser was disallowed. There was a supposed foul on David Raya that the officials overlooked on the pitch, but VAR intervened to uphold it.

Premier League Title Race Can Intensify if Arsenal’s Oppositions Adopt West Ham’s Approach

The Premier League title race could become more interesting if Burnley and Crystal Palace, the Gunners’ remaining opponents, adopt West Ham’s tactic of long clearances.

Throughout the match, West Ham mainly decided to clear the ball out by long kicks to the wing-backs to upset Arsenal‘s rhythm.

They also played with an additional central defender and put Bukayo Saka under a check. That stifled Arsenal for the most part, and it was only a run past the defensive line by substitute Kai Havertz that brought about Arsenal’s goal.

Should Burnley and Crystal Palace follow the same template, the Premier League title race could still have more surprises in store. Palace will play Arsenal on the last day of the season and could spring a surprise by taking points off Mikel Arteta’s team.

Burnley’s job, however, is tougher, as they will travel to the Emirates Stadium. Their relegation is already confirmed, but pride will be at stake. Taking points off Arsenal will help them immensely to restore some pride.

Arsenal Remain the Favorites To Win the Premier League Title

The Gunners are the favourites to win the Premier League title race at the moment. Unless they drop points in their two remaining fixtures, Manchester City will not be able to win the title even by winning their remaining three matches.

The final day of the season could still prove to be drama-filled. Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan won the title for the Cityzens with unforgettable goals on the last day of the season, and that could easily be repeated this year.

However, for that to happen, Burnley and Crystal Palace will have to play some negative football to thwart Arsenal. It is in their own interest as well, as it will give Burnley some pride and Crystal Palace a valuable point or more.

The job will not be easy for either of the teams, but they can give it a try. Football neutrals will also hope that the Premier League title race gets extended until the last day of the season.

The Gunners remain the favourites to win their first Premier League title in 22 years. However, there could still be a slip between the cup and the lip, thanks to Burnley and/or Crystal Palace. It remains to be seen whether Manchester City are able to stay in the Premier League title race by doing their bit in their remaining matches.
