Rayan Cherki Form Reaffirms His Status Among Some Of Manchester City’s Great Number 10s

The Rayan Cherki form for Manchester City continues to be encouraging, as the Frenchman scored twice in Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace in their second Premier League match of the season. In the same game, Erling Haaland also scored a brace after failing to find the net in City’s opening match against AFC Bournemouth.

The Rayan Cherki form becomes critical for the Cityzens, who are now without the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Rodri, who have been key cogs in their midfield.

Rayan Cherki Form: Will He Establish Himself As The Best Number 10 In The Premier League This Season?

The Rayan Cherki form has seen him start the season in a very good manner. The 23-year-old Frenchman has two goals and two assists in three matches so far this season. Cherki scored 10 goals and had 14 assists in 52 matches for Manchester City last season and was probably only behind Bruno Fernandes among the best number 10s in England, who had a record-equaling 21 assists for Manchester United last season. Overall, Cherki has scored 42 goals in 244 matches in his senior club career so far.

Cherki is not a crosser of the highest order like Fernandes, and that is an area where the latter outscores the former, and this is probably a reason why Fernandes has so many assists. The same was true about De Bruyne; a large number of his 173 assists for Manchester City came through his aerial deliveries into the opposition penalty box.

However, in terms of caressing the ball with his feet and playing short passes in tight spaces, Cherki is right up there with the very best in the business already. He is a very good dribbler as well and can carry the ball very well amid the forest of legs better than most. Still, Cherki is not as forceful in his runs with the ball into the middle third as De Bruyne was. The Belgian took time to evolve his game and became the much-cherished finished product during his decade-long stint with the blue half of Manchester.

Cherki still has time to grow as a player, and one can hope that he will be able to play his role well for the Cityzens in the coming years. With young talents like Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi behind him and a dangerous finisher like Erling Haaland in front, Cherki should get enough scope to make his game flourish for the Cityzens.

Enzo Maresca Will Depend A Lot On Cherki This Season

In the current season, Enzo Maresca will rely a lot on the Rayan Cherki form to take his team close to winning the Premier League title. Manchester City are going through a rebuild in midfield, and it will not be an overstatement to say that Cherki should lead the rebuild.

The Rayan Cherki form is a good omen for the Cityzens for the current season. Maresca will hope that the Rayan Cherki form will improve even further as the season progresses. Should that happen, the Cityzens will be in contention to win the Premier League title after their two successive failed attempts at winning it.
