Sandro Tonali’s Form Might Lure Him Away From Newcastle United Next Season

Sandro Tonali’s form for Newcastle United is quite good at the moment. The Italian midfielder is one of the best players at Newcastle United at the moment and is reportedly on the radar of a number of big clubs.

Sandro Tonali’s form has reportedly put him on the list of desired players for Manchester United next season. With Bruno Fernandes likely to leave the club soon, United are reportedly keen on signing Tonali.

Sandro Tonali’s Form

Sandro Tonali’s form has been quite decent for the Magpies since signing for them in 2023. Tonali has played in 97 matches for them and scored nine goals. Along with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, Tonali forms a very good midfield trio for Newcastle.

In fact, along with Arsenal and Manchester City, Newcastle have one of the best three-man midfields in the Premier League at the moment. Tonali is probably the most well-balanced one out of them in terms of the combination of attacking and defensive abilities, as the Italian is capable of making probing runs into the final third quite often and can be good with his tackling as well.

Tonali played for AC Milan for three seasons and scored seven goals in 130 matches for the Italian giants prior to coming to Newcastle. Tonali also won the Serie A title with AC Milan in 2022, which means that he has proven his credentials of playing at a bigger club than Newcastle. With Newcastle United, too, he won the EFL Cup in 2025.

Manchester United To Sign Tonali?

The Red Devils will need another midfielder pretty soon, with Fernandes turning 32 this year and unlikely to serve the club much longer. Casemiro is also expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

United are reportedly interested in signing Elliot Anderson as well, but, with Manchester City also in the race to sign the holding midfielders from England, United might find it difficult to get the player in the end.

Hence, signing Tonali might become essential for them. Tonali is still only 25 and should have a long career in front of him. If United are able to sign him and extract the best out of him for a five-six-year period, like they have done with Bruno Fernandes, it will be a bargain for them.

Tonali is also a better defensive player than Fernandes and can play in the double-pivot as well. A combination of Tonali and Kobbie Mainoo could be really good for United in their double-pivot next season.

However, the list of Italians playing successfully at Manchester United is not long at all. Only Matteo Darmian has played for the Red Devils with some distinction among his countrymen. However, there is no reason why Tonali cannot do the same, considering his experience of playing football in England.

Still, the primary goal will be to ensure that the Magpies finish in a respectable position in the league table. Newcastle are 10th in the table at the moment and still some six points off the top six.

Playing in Europe next season should be the target for the Magpies. In order to achieve that, they will hope that Sandro Tonali’s form remains good until the end of the season. If Sandro Tonali‘s form is maintained for the next few months, the Italian is likely to be enticed to a bigger club.
