Son and Maddison continue to give hope to Tottenham’s title ambitions

Tottenham Hotspur still remains at the top of the Premier League table with 26 points from 10 matches after having won their match against Crystal Palace 2-1 last Friday. Son Heung-min found the net for the Spurs yet again to take them two points clear of Manchester City.

Ange Postecoglou’s men have been looking like the real deal for quite some time now. With almost 25% of the matches complete, there is still a long time to go in the season. However, the start has been brilliant for Tottenham, who continues to keep the pressure on the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Tottenham has already played their matches against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool, which means that they have successfully dealt with tough oppositions. The challenge for them is to keep performing in their upcoming matches as well.

Son and Maddison have been top-class

Son has taken up the mantle of the chief goal-scorer of his team after Harry Kane’s departure. The 31-year-old South Korean forward has scored eight goals in 11 matches so far and also registered an assist.

He has frequently combined with James Maddison to torment their opponents this season. The latest example of their collaboration was seen against Fulham, when Maddison scored Tottenham’s second goal from Son’s pass.

Maddison is arguably the best No. 10 in the Premier League at the moment with three goals and five assists to his credit already this season. His ability to find the forwards with short, incisive passes has come to the fore quite often.

The duo of Son and Maddison is the most lethal one in the league now, with Kevin De Bruyne being absent because of an injury and hence, not being able to form the partnership with Erling Haaland. Son and Maddison’s combination in the final third has become a cause for concern for most of the defenses in the league.

Tottenham will look to build on their wonderful start

However, Tottenham has been known to waste good starts in the past, including in the previous season. Hence, they cannot afford to be complacent at all, as they have a match against Chelsea coming up next week.

Maruricio Pochettino’s Chelsea have been improving consistently of late. Hence, Postecoglou’s men will have to be cautious against those two sides. Tottenham is scheduled to face Wolves and Aston Villa thereafter, both of which are capable of beating any team on their day.

Villa thrashed West Ham United recently and Wolves have defeated Manchester City this season. Thus, Tottenham will have to be on their toes for the next one month or so. The next few weeks are going to be very crucial for them if they are to harbour serious ambitions of winning the title.

The roles of the likes of Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski – who has been very good so far – and Manor Solomon are also going to be very important in the Spurs’ attack, as they cannot afford to always depend upon Son and Maddison to get their goals.
