Having endured a torrid season that saw them finish 10th in the 2025/26 English Premier League table, the Chelsea transfer update has quickly become one of the most searched keywords on Google, as millions of Blues fans eagerly wait for positive news regarding the departure of several players they believe contributed to the club’s disastrous campaign.

Coming into the season fresh off an impressive 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup, very few would have imagined Chelsea would end the campaign in such disappointing fashion — winning just two of their final 13 matches in all competitions, and finishing a staggering 33 points behind eventual Premier League champions Arsenal.

The contrast between the Chelsea side that defeated Italian and Spanish champions Napoli and Barcelona earlier in the UEFA Champions League campaign, and the same team that later endured a five-game losing streak without scoring a single goal – going 520 minutes without finding the net – perfectly captures the inconsistency and crisis within the team that defined their season.

That drought equalled an unwanted club record that had stood since November 1912 and ultimately left fans convinced that several players in the squad were simply not good enough to wear the Chelsea jersey.

Much of the blame must also be directed at the Chelsea board, who have learned two valuable lessons after spending close to £2 billion on new signings during their four-year reign, and have arguably recorded more transfer failures than successes.

However, with reports suggesting that Chelsea’s new head coach, Xabi Alonso, will now have greater influence over transfer decisions, the club’s recruitment strategy could finally shift toward a more thorough evaluation of players based on talent, character, mentality, and suitability for the tactical demands of the former Real Madrid coach.

Although Alonso is expected to hand every player a clean slate and an opportunity to prove themselves, there already appears to be a long list of names that many Chelsea supporters would prefer to see leave the club permanently this summer.

Chelsea Transfer Update: Seven Players Fans Want Out Before The Summer Window Closes

1) Alejandro Garnacho

The 21-year-old’s arrival from Manchester United in 2024 was a transfer that initially left many fans stunned, although supporters still chose to back him and hope he would succeed at Stamford Bridge.

However, his time at Chelsea has largely been frustrating. Beyond his disappointing statistics, fans have also been infuriated by his inability to consistently beat defenders in one-on-one situations or justify the reported £40 million fee paid for his services.

Despite being handed several opportunities to establish himself as a regular starter, his performances only left a poor impression on supporters, with the Argentine managing just one goal in 24 Premier League appearances, while his defensive work rate also left little for fans to admire.

Ironically, one of his worst displays of the season came against his former club, Manchester United.

While it remains unclear whether Xabi Alonso sees him as a player capable of fitting into his tactical system, the uncertainty surrounding his future has done little to change the opinion of many Chelsea fans, a large section of whom would prefer to see him leave the club this summer.

2) Benoit Badiashile

The Frenchman’s last appearance for Chelsea came in the 4-2 FA Cup victory over Wrexham, and across the entire 2025/26 campaign, he managed just 16 appearances in all competitions, with only eight coming in the Premier League.

His spell at Stamford Bridge has largely been underwhelming, marked by inconsistent performances that gradually eroded the confidence and trust many fans once had in him whenever he stepped onto the pitch.

Benoît Badiashile’s biggest problem during his time at Chelsea has been his inability to remain fit consistently. Recurring hamstring problems and multiple injury setbacks have repeatedly disrupted his momentum, especially during crucial periods of the season when the Blues needed defensive stability the most.

Beyond his fitness concerns, the French defender has also struggled with costly mistakes and inconsistent performances.

The composure and confidence he showed at the beginning of his Chelsea career have gradually disappeared under pressure, with match-going supporters becoming increasingly frustrated by his positional awareness, slow reactions, and tendency to commit clumsy errors in high-stakes Premier League matches.

Another major reason why many supporters now believe he should be included in the club’s summer clear-out is Chelsea’s growing squad depth in defence.

With Levi Colwill already establishing himself as a reliable left-footed ball-playing defender, alongside the impressive emergence of young Dutch talent Jorrel Hato, many fans feel Badiashile has become replaceable in Chelsea’s squad rebuild under Xabi Alonso.

As part of the latest Chelsea transfer news, the Frenchman is increasingly being viewed as one of several players who could be put up for sale during the summer transfer window as the club looks to reshape the squad and improve its defensive consistency.

3) Liam Delap

With just one goal contribution across the entire Premier League season, the English striker is dangerously close to being remembered as one of Chelsea’s worst modern-era number nines.

The 23-year-old, who was nicknamed “Baby Kane” because of similarities in his playing style to Harry Kane, earned a £30 million move to Chelsea after an impressive 2024/25 campaign with Ipswich Town.

However, his spell at Stamford Bridge has turned into a major disappointment and has become one of the biggest talking points in the list of Chelsea’s outgoing players.

At Ipswich, Delap flourished in counter-attacking systems where he could exploit open spaces with direct runs and physicality. However, at Chelsea, he regularly came up against deep defensive blocks and compact Premier League defences.

Without the elite technical ability, sharp movement, or first touch required to operate effectively in tight spaces, he frequently struggled to influence matches and lost possession 48 times in league action alone.

Although injuries disrupted parts of his campaign, he still received enough opportunities to establish himself as Chelsea’s first-choice striker. Unfortunately, those chances failed to produce the desired breakthrough.

Known for being an aggressive old-school centre-forward who excels in hold-up play and bringing teammates into attacking moves, he never truly adapted to Chelsea’s tactical system. As a result, he has now been included in the list of Premier League flops of the 2025/26 season.

With Nicolas Jackson — another player many supporters would reportedly be open to selling — returning to the club after the expiration of his loan deal at Bayern Munich, alongside the arrival of Emmanuel Emegha from RC Strasbourg, Delap’s future at Stamford Bridge appears increasingly uncertain.

4) Wesley Fofana

Chelsea fans want Wesley Fofana out of the club due to a toxic mixture of shambolic disciplinary record, dreadful on-pitch performances, and a constant history of injuries.

Ever since his big-money £75 million move from Leicester City, the Frenchman has lacked consistency, and despite his injury record having improved this season, he has shown another side of him that has irked the fanbase.

Fofana displayed a reckless and error-prone side to his game throughout the just-concluded season, with lapses in concentration ultimately making him the only Chelsea player to receive two red cards during the 2025/26 campaign.

For many supporters, the final breaking point came on the last day of the season against Sunderland — a must-win fixture in Chelsea’s push for European qualification.

His performance in that crucial match only intensified frustration among fans, who had already grown increasingly critical of his decision-making and defensive reliability.

In addition to his two dismissals, the defender also accumulated seven yellow cards in just 25 appearances, highlighting what many viewed as a season plagued by poor discipline and inconsistent performances.

Supporters have also frequently criticised his positioning, lack of spatial awareness, and seemingly careless attitude when committing costly mistakes in high-pressure moments.

Fitness concerns have also become a major issue in the ongoing discussions surrounding the defender.

Many fans feel frustrated that one of the club’s highest earners — reportedly earning around £200,000 per week — has struggled to maintain consistent fitness and availability since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

With Chelsea starting a new era, no one knows whether the Frenchman will be included in Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea project. A growing section of the fanbase believes the club should cut its losses and move on from the French defender as part of a wider defensive overhaul.

5) Romeo Lavia

On his day, Roméo Lavia remains one of the most naturally gifted midfielders in the Chelsea squad, but persistent injury problems have prevented him from reaching the level many supporters expected when he first arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Before completing his move to Chelsea, the Belgian midfielder was attracting strong interest from several top European clubs because of his composure, defensive intelligence, and ball-carrying ability.

However, since joining the Blues, his career has been severely disrupted by recurring hamstring, thigh, and quad injuries, which caused him to miss nearly 60 per cent of the club’s matches during his time in West London.

The constant cycle of brief comebacks followed by fresh injury setbacks has left many supporters frustrated, especially amid Chelsea’s squad rebuild and midfield restructuring ahead of the summer transfer window.

Remarkably, despite spending close to three seasons at the club, Lavia has still not completed a full 90 minutes for Chelsea’s first team. During the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, he was limited to just 12 substitute appearances, playing only 385 league minutes in total.

With Lavia sidelined for large periods, Chelsea’s midfield evolution continued without him.

The partnership between Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernández became increasingly important to the team, while the emergence of Brazilian youngster Andrey Santos further strengthened the club’s midfield depth heading into the new season.

Combined with Chelsea’s reported interest in signing additional midfielders this summer, Lavia’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge now appears uncertain.

Reports have even suggested that Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has placed the Belgian midfielder on the club’s internal “sell” list as part of a wider squad overhaul focused on improving fitness reliability, tactical intensity, and overall squad balance.

6) Tosin Adarabioyo

In his debut season at Chelsea, the English defender — who arrived on a free transfer from Fulham — established himself as an important figure under Enzo Maresca, making 37 appearances across all competitions and earning praise for his versatility and work ethic.

However, the following campaign saw a significant decline in both form and influence, with his performances dropping sharply and his playing time becoming increasingly limited as Chelsea’s squad rebuild progressed.

His struggles defensively became more noticeable throughout the season, particularly his lack of recovery pace when tracking back, his recurring high-profile mistakes in dangerous areas, and his ongoing difficulties in one-on-one situations against quick and skilful wingers.

These issues gradually eroded supporters’ confidence in his ability to remain a reliable long-term option in the squad.

As the Blues continue reshaping the team ahead of the summer transfer window, many fans now feel the club should move on from the defender, especially with younger and more dynamic options emerging within the squad.

His inconsistent performances and defensive vulnerabilities have made him one of several players supporters believe could be included in Chelsea’s summer clear-out.

With Chelsea closely monitoring Maxence Lacroix as a key target to lead the club’s defensive rebuild, reports suggest the Blues are preparing a £35 million package that could include a player-swap arrangement involving Adarabioyo moving to Crystal Palace.

7) Malo Gusto

Inconsistency has become one of the main reasons why a large section of Chelsea supporters now want Malo Gusto to leave the club.

While the French full-back featured in 47 matches across all competitions during the 2025/26 season, his performances — particularly in the second half of the campaign — often left fans frustrated and unconvinced.

Despite his energy and attacking intent, many supporters believe he has not shown the level of quality required to hold down a starting role in a Chelsea side aiming to compete for major trophies.

His defensive positioning, decision-making, and lack of consistent end product regularly came under criticism during the club’s disappointing run of form.

During several high-pressure Premier League matches, fans grew increasingly frustrated with his struggles against tricky wingers, lapses in concentration, and inability to provide reliable defensive stability on the right-hand side.

Although it remains unclear whether Xabi Alonso views him as an important part of Chelsea’s long-term tactical project, Gusto could still have a future at Stamford Bridge due to his age and potential.

However, judging by the growing fan reactions and discussions surrounding Chelsea’s ongoing squad rebuild, many supporters would still prefer the club to consider moving him on during Chelsea’s squad rebuild in the summer transfer window.
