The Tottenham vs Manchester United match ended in a 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, November 8.
The stalemate left Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur with 20 and 18 points respectively. However, United are seventh on the Premier League table, while Tottenham are fifth.
In the Tottenham vs Manchester United game, the Red Devils took the lead in the first half and maintained it until the 83rd minute. Ruben Amorim will wonder what could have been had his team been able to hold on to the lead in the Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United match.
Tottenham vs Manchester United: United’s Frailties Refuse To Go
Spurs made a few effective substitutions in the second half of the Tottenham vs Manchester United game that helped them earn a point.
Destiny Udogie came on for Pedro Porro and made a few probing overlaps through the left flank. One of his crosses led to a goal as Mathys Tel, another substitute, made a rapid turn to catch Matthijs De Ligt off guard and took a shot that touched a portion of the latter’s foot before going in.
Richarlison then put the hosts ahead with a flick of his head to deflect a goal-bound shot into the net. De Ligt then made amends by scoring with a header off a Bruno Fernandes corner to earn a point for the visitors.
Amorim’s decision to take Mazraoui, who has had injury issues, off to start playing Amad Diallo, who started as the right-winger, as the right wing-back was a questionable one.
Amad was once again a standout player in delivering crosses to his colleagues. His inch-perfect cross led to United’s opening goal, scored by Bryan Mbeumo. However, Amad struggled once again with his defensive responsibilities. It is pretty clear that the young man is no defender. United will have to do something about it.

Striker Doesn’t Hit the Mark
Then there was Benjamin Sesko, who came on as a substitute for Mazraoui in the second half of the Tottenham vs Manchester United fixture. He wasted at least a couple of chances to score because of his tendency to hold on to the ball for a little too long. At moments when he should have been decisive, Sesko took too much time to take a shot at goal and thereby allowed the Tottenham defence to avert the danger.
He got injured while trying to score from a clear chance, which meant that Manchester United played the last few minutes of the match with 10 men, having exhausted all their substitutes. That allowed Tottenham to score their second goal.
This is simply not good enough from a striker. If he is not clinical and decisive enough near the opposition’s penalty box, he will continue to start on the bench. Amorim’s problem is that he will then have no other option than starting Matheus Cunha as the No. 9.
United have a relatively easy set of next few matches. That will give the Red Devils a great chance to consolidate their position in the league table. However, should the known follies remain, they will find it difficult to break into the top four. Amorim cannot afford to have a case of so-near-yet-so-far every time his team gets to the pitch.
