Another player who could reduce the need for Chelsea to dip into the market in search of Marc Cucurella’s replacement at Chelsea is summer signing Valentin Barco.
The Argentine, who arrived from Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, is an exceptionally versatile footballer with the ability to operate across several positions.
Having begun his career as a left-back with Boca Juniors before continuing in the role during his time at Brighton & Hove Albion, Barco enjoyed a highly successful 18-month spell at Strasbourg, where he was deployed primarily as a central midfielder.
Interestingly, his playing style shares several similarities with Cucurella’s. He likes to stay wide, using his outstanding technical quality and spatial awareness to receive possession in tight central areas and progress play under pressure.
