The Benjamin Sesko goal for Manchester United against Everton in a Premier League match on Sunday, September 7, was another reminder of his quality as a striker, as the Benjamin Sesko goal against the Toffees was his first of the 2026/27 season.

Sesko came on as a substitute against Everton, as he has not yet started for Manchester United so far this season, but his form might persuade Michael Carrick to have him in the starting XI against Sabah in the UEFA Champions League. Manchester United drew the match 2-2 with Everton despite the Benjamin Sesko goal and now have four points in three matches.

Does The Benjamin Sesko Goal Mean That He Should Be In The Starting XI?

The Benjamin Sesko goal was his 13th for Manchester United in 35 matches. Before that, he had scored 39 goals in 87 matches for RB Leipzig, which means that he has scored a total of 52 goals in 122 matches in Germany and England as a player.

The six-foot-five-inch-tall striker has a better goal-scoring frequency than Matheus Cunha, who has scored 72 goals in 276 matches in his senior club career in Spain, Germany and England, and the Brazilian is probably more comfortable playing as a left-winger than a centre-forward. However, the problem with Manchester United is that they already have Marcus Rashford on the left flank, who is playing reasonably well this season. Still, it cannot be denied that Rashford is yet to score a goal or register an assist in three matches so far.

The Benjamin Sesko goal once again showed that the Red Devils have been missing a potent, clinical striker upfront, as Cunha is more of a false nine. Now, it is for Carrick to decide whether he would replace Rashford or Cunha in the starting XI to accommodate Sesko in the team against Sabah.

The Red Devils Have The Tough Manchester Derby Coming Up

Manchester United will face their neighbours on Sunday, September 13, in the Premier League. It remains to be seen whether Sesko starts for them in that match, and if he does, who he replaces in the playing XI. Rashford has 156 goals in his senior club career, and dropping him to the bench is not going to be an easy decision for Carrick. Hence, the likely option for him will be to bench Cunha and play Sesko as the centre-forward.

However, having Sesko upfront will entrust his teammates with an increased responsibility to provide the ball to him inside the opposition penalty box, as Bruno Fernandes will be expected to put in a lot of assists. Unlike Cunha, Sesko is more of a penalty-box striker and hence will need a constant delivery of the ball into the penalty box.

The Benjamin Sesko goal against Everton should make him hungrier and raring to go in the match against Manchester City. United have enjoyed a good record against their city rivals during the past couple of years, but it will not be an easy task for them on Sunday, as Manchester City already lead them by five points. However, the Benjamin Sesko goal against Everton has given Carrick more options upfront.
