Chelsea’s nightmare season continues to get worse, as in the recent Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest clash, the Blues lost 3-1 to drop to the ninth position in the Premier League table.
The Blues’ defeat in the Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest match was their sixth consecutive Premier League loss and their 13th in 35 matches, which means that they have now lost more than a third of their matches in the league this season.
Chelsea’s Nightmare Season: Defensive Issues Continue To Plague The Blues
The defeat for the Blues in the Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest clash on Monday saw them concede three goals, proving that their defence is nowhere near good enough.
Unless they sign a top centre-back or two, it is unlikely that the tendency to concede goals will stop, even though they have a top-class defensive midfielder like Moises Caicedo.
The Blues’ only positive from the Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest game saw Joao Pedro score a fantastic bicycle kick as a consolation strike for Chelsea.
That fantastic finish was Joao Pedro’s 20th goal of the season, and he has probably been their best player in Chelsea’s nightmare season.
Cole Palmer remains an enigma, and after his breakthrough season a couple of years back, he has yet to regain the same touch.
Jamie Gittens has found the net only once in 27 matches so far, and whilst Alejandro Garnacho attracted a lot of attention with his off-field activities before he arrived at Chelsea, eight goals in 41 matches this season do not do his hype much justice.
Pedro Neto has been somewhat consistent, but has not been excellent by any standard.
Aside from Joao Pedro, Caicedo has probably been the West Londoners’ most consistent performer; however, the praiseworthy efforts of a few players have not been enough to salvage the season for them.

Chelsea’s Nightmare Season: Can The Blues Salvage Their Season?
Chelsea do not have an easy end to the season at all.
They will play against Liverpool next, with the Reds desperate to cling on to their place in the top five. Then, the Blues will face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 16.
Thereafter, they will take on a Tottenham Hotspur, who are threatened by possible relegation and end their season, and then, the Blues will face a dangerous Sunderland side away.
There is a considerable chance that Chelsea will fail to ensure qualification for European competitions next season. Should that happen, it will mark an absolute failure of their so-called project that has incurred high cost, but has hardly yielded results in terms of performance in the big competitions.
As the Chelsea loss against Nottingham Forest underlined, their performance these days is befitting of a mid-table team, nothing more. A new permanent manager might be able to turn the tide next season, but the over-interfering board might have their say on things too often.
As a result, one can only hope that the team performs better in their remaining fixtures. An FA Cup win will be a great plus for them, but it seems very unlikely for them at the moment. Either way, not qualifying for European football next season will not be acceptable at all, and Chelsea’s nightmare season will only be saved with silverware.
