Origi Prefers A Premier League Move

Three Italian clubs have approached the striker this month. However, Origi has said he would prefer a Premier League move. Newcastle United are heavily linked with the Liverpool striker. The Magpies have already made an early signing in the January transfer window, signing Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid. They will now look to increase their depth in attack.

Origi has been close to leaving Liverpool in the past. In 2017, Origi left Liverpool on a season-long loan to play German side, Wolfsburg. Ever since he has been linked with several teams but has never made the move. Even now, he is interested in waiting until the summer to become a free agent so he can keep his options open.

Jurgen Klopp’s Thoughts On Origi

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has openly praised Divock Origi many times. Klopp has described Origi as “one of the best finishers” he has ever seen, as stated in The Athletic

“(Origi) is an incredible striker and for different reasons he did not play that often, but I hope one day he finds a manager that plays him more than I do.”

It is understood that if Origi wants a January move, the club won’t get in his way. However, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah at AFCON, Liverpool may want to sell him earlier in the window to give them time to find a replacement.

Current Situation

Origi has been out of the squad recently due to a knee injury he received in training. He is expected to return from his injury very soon.
