Having lost to a Belgian side for the first time in UEFA club competitions last week, PAOK will look to overturn a narrow 1-0 defeat as Club Brugge heads to Greece for their UEFA Europa Conference League quarterfinal decider. Having had the weekend off to focus on this match, PAOK is looking to prolong their unbeaten run in the UECL at Toumba Stadium to nine. Last week’s defeat in Belgium ended a four-game unbeaten run, with three of those matches being wins.
PAOK has never gone farther than the quarterfinals in Europe, with the Thessaloniki-based club being one of just two teams to reach this stage of the Conference League twice. En route to making this round two years ago, they knocked off Club Brugge’s Flanders rival Gent in the last 16.
Club Brugge has found renewed energy, winning their last three games in all competitions, and conceding just once in that run. It has been 32 years since they last progressed from the quarterfinals in Europe, losing in the 1991/92 UEFA Cup Winners Cup final to Werder Bremen.
Should they reach the final of the Conference League this term, they would become just the second team to reach the final in all of UEFA’s club competitions, past and present. With no Belgian side making a continental semifinal this term, Blauw-Zwart is on the cusp of ending the long wait.
