Three Players Who Can Replace Sergio Aguero

Hardly anyone comes close to making an impact such as Sergio Aguero in the Premier League in the last decade. Having signed for Manchester City in 2011, Aguero has continued to rise into the stature one of the world’s best centre forwards.

However, the going has always not been smooth, every season, Aguero has had to deal with fitness problems. Despite these injury concerns, the Argentinian striker has managed to put up astonishing numbers. But with age catching up, these fitness woes are now being exposed more than ever and playing regularly is just not happening for Sergio Aguero.

City with an eye forward to the future might be looking at options to replace their leading goal scorer of all time. Here are three players who can replace Sergio Aguero at Manchester City.

Three Strikers City Need to Replace Aguero

Erling Braut Haaland

Erling Haaland is one of the hottest properties in Europe currently and has various clubs interested in him. All clubs, however, cannot afford to sign the Norwegian striker. This is the point where City can gain an advantage since the financial aspect would not be a problem for them.

Haaland is destined to be one of the best strikers and Pep Guardiola will love to have his services at the Etihad. The Borussia Dortmund striker is a lethal goal scorer and is brilliant in the air; something that City lack. He has already bagged 21 goals for the club this season which just goes to show how clinical he is. There have been reports that Haaland’s release clause can be activated in 2022 and City should act upon as fast as possible before losing out on a gem.

Lautaro Martinez

What better than replacing an Argentinian with another Argentinian. Lautaro Martinez has been considered by many as the next ‘Sergio Aguero’ taking into the fact how he has already caused a storm in Europe at such a young age and has the likes of Barcelona chasing his signature.

Although Inter Milan has no intention of parting ways with the 23-year-old shortly the prospect of playing for the best club in England under Pep Guardiola could lure away Martinez to England. The young striker has some weaknesses in his game though and he needs to work upon them if he wants to play under Guardiola. With 10 goals already in the Serie A whilst playing as a second striker, the role goes to show how impressive the player is and how he can become in the future. He is undoubtedly one of the players who can replace Sergio Aguero.

Luka Jovic

This is probably a surprising option knowing how little Luka Jovic has been linked to City but his qualities can’t be ignored. Since joining Real Madrid in 2019 after a hugely successful spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, his career has witnessed a massive downfall.

Lack of playing time meant that Jovic was rarely able to show his skills. This ultimately led to return to the German club on a loan until the end of the season. Suddenly his two weeks in Germany already look better than his two years at Real Madrid. It is just astonishing what confidence can do to a player. Jovic is a perfect poacher and that’s a quality Pep Guardiola would dearly want to have the club, so its understandable if City decides to go for him sometime in the future.
