Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid?

Is it possible we see Liverpool standout Trent Alexander-Arnold sign with world power Real Madrid in the summer of 2025? Reports indicate Alexander-Arnold has a contract set to expire June 2025 and Real Madrid is keeping a close eye on the situation.

There is no doubt Alexander-Arnold would be a desire of many clubs, but why does this potential move to Real Madrid seem like a legit possibility? Also, who would Alexander-Arnold fit into the club?

What Trent Alexander-Arnold Brings to the Table

A member of Liverpool FC’s Academy since the age of six, Alexander-Arnold has risen to the rank of vice-captain all by the age of 25. Alexander-Arnold has held a handful of championships under the Liverpool FC banner such as the FA Community Shield, the 2022 FA Cup, Carabao Cups (2022, 2024), Premier League Title (2019/2020), Champions League (2019), UEFA Super Cup (2019), and FIFA Club World Cup (2019.)

Third in the league play in last man tackles, Alexander-Arnold has shown year in and year out that he has the ability to shut down a strong finisher, despite knocks on his defence at times. Tied for sixth in EPL league play assists among defenders (4) and goals (2), there is no doubt the strong offensive skills are there for the former youth midfielder. Alexander-Arnold has already tied his goal total for the last three seasons, with two in each season.

Real Madrid’s Current Defence and Their Future

Currently at right-back, Real Madrid mans Dani Carvajal, who has been apart of the club since 2013. Coincidentally, Caravajal’s contract expires in June 2025, the time Alexander-Arnold would become available. With 22 league games played this year, Caravajal has scored four goals, more than any other season of his career thus far.

With the Spanish now 32 years old, Alexander-Arnold would serve as an ideal successor. Real Madrid already sports a potent defensive line with centre-backs Antonio Rüdiger and Aurelien Tchouaméni. Through 29 La Liga league games, Real Madrid has by far given up the least amount of goals with 20. The next closest is fourth-place Atlético Madrid club with 26. Alexander-Arnold would only help solidify this top-tier defence along with adding some dangerous offence.

Journalist Matteo Moretto stated, “With Alexander-Arnold, he has to speak with Liverpool first to see if the conditions are in place for him to want to sign a new deal, or if he wants to try something new. Real Madrid are paying very close attention to what happens with him. They will wait until Alexander-Arnold speaks with Liverpool and clarifies whether he is staying or leaving first though.”

Consummate Professional

As expected, Alexander-Arnold has remained a top professional, especially with one more year left on his contract when asked about the potential move to Los Blancos. Alexander-Arnold has only stated, “There is nowhere else I’d rather be than Liverpool. Somewhere I want to stay for the rest of my career is Liverpool. It’s what I’ve always dreamed of. Liverpool are special. It’s completely down to the fans. Whether we are winning or losing we always have their love.”

He can expect Alexander-Arnold to remain tight-lipped on the topic. A lot of this will probably hinge on the future of long-time player and current right-back Caravajal.
