In terms of business on the field, 2025 is over for Bayern Munich. While it may not exactly be the midpoint of the season in the Bundesliga yet (15 of 34 rounds have only been played). The league phase of the UCL is likewise not quite over yet, but this is the time of year, usually reserved for reflection on what has happened so far this term. For that reason, we bring you the Bayern Munich midseason report.
The Bayern Munich Midseason Report: Total Dominance in the Bundesliga
The Bavarians finished the calendar year still unbeaten domestically, with 13 wins and two draws in the league. In doing so, they scored 55 goals, conceding a mere 11.
Since richer leagues, such as specifically the English Premier League, have bled Bayern’s biggest competitors dry in the summer transfer market before the season got underway, it was expected that the Bavarians would dominate the league.
Although hardly anyone would have predicted the dominance to be at that extreme scale, in fact, before the season began, we sounded the alarm bells regarding Bayern’s lack of depth and the conflict within the club leadership over transfers.
However, based on the evidence of the results of this season so far, we were clearly wrong. Coach Vincent Kompany has led his team in an exemplary way. He has at times even managed to get more out of his side than was in it.
The former Belgium international has the notoriously difficult Bayern dressing room under complete control. Whenever we see how Kompany interacts with his players on the sidelines, it becomes clear that they fully buy into his message.
When players are substituted out of games, they often give the coach a hug on their way to the bench. To outsiders, that might seem like a banal and unimportant detail. But to anyone who knows Bayern Munich and its squad of stars, it is significant that it is.
The Bavarians go into the winter break with a nine-point lead on second-place Borussia Dortmund.

Excellent Performances in the Champions League
As amazing as Bayern’s domination of the Bundesliga has been, it has not been limited to the domestic league. Far from it. The Munich side sit in second place in the UCL league phase table, with two rounds left to play.
They virtually only need one more win from their remaining match-ups at home to the current Belgian champions Union Saint-Gilloise and away to Dutch side PSV, to finish in the top eight, and thus go straight to the Round of 16.
This Bayern Munich midseason report is so positive, largely because of the side’s performances in Europe. The highlights so far were victories against European heavyweights Chelsea and defending champions PSG.
Overall, Bayern won five of their six matches in the Champions League, only losing to Arsenal, before returning to winning ways against Sporting Lisbon. They scored 18 goals in the process, while conceding seven.
Still Alive in the Cup
This is only the second time since 2021 that Bayern have remained in the DFB Cup through the winter break.
After having narrowly overcome third-tier Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round, they defeated fellow Bundesliga sides 1. FC Köln and Union Berlin, respectively, in round two and the round of 16, respectively, to reach the quarterfinal at home against RB Leipzig in February.
As positive as this Bayern Munich midseason report has been, it is only barely midseason. Meaning, there is much to be played in the spring. In the Champions League and the Cup, it will be knockout football, which has much to do with day-to-day form and even luck.
Particularly in Europe, Bayern will need the luck of the draw and good fortune within games to succeed. They will also need to avoid injuries. But the Bavarians have laid the foundation for a possibly memorable campaign.
