Leah Williamson signs new contract with Arsenal women on Thursday, April 30, committing her future to the Women’s Super League side and extending a career-long association with the club.

The 29-year-old England captain, who joined Arsenal as a child, will remain in north London for at least the next phase of her career, with reports indicating the deal runs until around 2028.

Williamson’s new agreement brings an end to uncertainty over her future, with her previous contract due to expire at the end of the current season. Talks between player and club had been ongoing for several months before the extension was finalised.

Leah Williamson’s One-Club Career Continues

Williamson has spent more than two decades with Arsenal, rising through the academy before making her senior debut in 2014.

She has since become one of the most important figures in the team, both on and off the pitch.

Her leadership qualities have been central to Arsenal’s recent success, including their UEFA Women’s Champions League triumph over Barcelona in 2025.

She has also won domestic honours with the club, including league and cup titles, and remains a key figure in the dressing room.

The defender, who can also play in midfield, is widely regarded as a symbol of Arsenal’s identity, having developed entirely within the club’s system.

Injury-Hit Season but Key Role Ahead

Williamson’s current campaign has been disrupted by injury. She missed the first half of the season after undergoing knee surgery following Euro 2025, limiting her appearances upon her return.

Despite that setback, Arsenal have shown continued faith in their captain, underlining her importance to the squad.

The club views her as a central figure in both their defensive structure and long-term planning.

Her return to fitness in recent months has provided a timely lift, with Arsenal competing across multiple competitions as they push for further silverware.

Commitment to Club and Country

Williamson also remains a key player for England women’s national football team, whom she captains at international level.

She led the Lionesses to major success in recent years, which includes two successive Euros titles in 2022 and 2025.

By signing a new contract, Williamson has reaffirmed her commitment to both club and country, choosing continuity at Arsenal despite interest and speculation surrounding her future.

For Arsenal, securing the long-term future of their captain is a major statement. It ensures stability within the squad and keeps one of the most influential players in women’s football at the heart of their project.

As the club looks ahead to the coming seasons, Williamson’s presence offers both experience and leadership – qualities that remain vital as Arsenal aim to compete at the highest level domestically and in Europe.
