Gabriel Martinelli’s Consistency in Form Remains Vital Towards Arsenal’s Pursuit for Premier League Glory

How Well Has He Performed?

Gabriel Martinelli has been in prolific form for Arsenal in recent games. After recovering from a hamstring problem suffered during the defeat at Everton, the Brazilian striker has registered three goals in two matches for the Gunners; scoring against West Ham United before notching a sumptuous brace in Arsenal’s 4-1 hammering of depleted Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday 18th December.

The 20-year-old forward burst into the limelight this season after his exciting showpiece against Newcastle United, where his impressive all round performance throughout the game was rewarded when he scored Arsenal’s second — and his first goal of the season — in the most impudent of fashion, perfectly chipping the ball over the advancing Martin Dubravka to dink it into the back of the net.

Mikel Arteta has since then handed him a position in his starting XI and that has paid off as Martinelli has utilised the game time under his belt to showcase the attacking qualities embedded in him. Thus, against a run of play, he was released into West Ham United’s box by Alexander Lacazette’s pass to slot home past Lucas Fabianski into the bottom left corner of the goal post.

He also replicated the same feat against Leeds United — this time even better. Scoring Arsenal’s opening goal of the game in the 15th minute after capitalising on porous defending to strike a loose ball into the top corner from the middle of the box before grabbing his second on the half hour mark when he raced through on goal to exquisitely chip the ball over Ilan Meslier.

Revitalization of Arsenal’s attack — The Impact of Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal’s toothless attacking department has been a major factor in their failure at the early stages of the season as a lack of formidable partnership between the attacking pairs at the final third pervaded Mikel Arteta’s side thereby resulting in their inability to effectively penetrate opposition defence in addition to suffering successive league defeats.

But it seems that things have taken a twist and turn as Gabriel Martinelli now looks like the man to redeem the Gunners image and fuel their aspiration towards achieving greater feat this season. With the absence of talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was recently stripped off captaincy at the Club due to disciplinary reasons, the Brazilian sensation is at his best, terrorizing oppositions defense with his pace and slick footwork, much thanks to the amazing youngsters Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe and Martin Ordegaard acting in combination.

It however comes as no surprise that these young attacking talents have not only filled the vacuum left by erstwhile captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but have also revitalized Arsenal’s attack having mustered a combined 7 goals out of 9 scored in the last 3 match days.

Can He Retain his Attacking Prowess?

Gabriel Martinelli has set the pace with his incredible performances in the last couple of games. He has created awareness in the mind of the manager as regards his potential. Little wonder that Mikel Arteta was full of praise for the forward after the Leeds United match and described him saying that: “he his still a huge potential and the ceiling is I don’t know where.”

Therefore, he has grown confidence which places him on course to attaining his best stint since joining Arsenal in 2019 provided that he his full of optimism and upholds a positive attitude to work.
